J.R. Avon is a player who likely would not have been available for the Flyers as an undrafted free agent if the 2020-21 season wasn’t cancelled due to Covid. He has good speed, agility, sense, and puck skills. J.R. Avon was ranked 200 amongst North American skaters heading into the 2021 draft without playing the 2020-21 season. He quickly became a top threat for the Peterborough Petes in the OHL, and has amassed 62 goals and 77 assists fort a total of 139 points in 173 games played.

His outlook is undetermined at the professional level, but J.R. Avon has the looks of being a solid middle sixer for the Flyers. He is a good skater that can turn on the jets as he so chooses. He is a pesky player, as well, as a good back checker. To top it all off he is a good board battler that wins puck battles along the walls. J.R. Avon’s has one heck of a release. the most improvement to J.R. Avon’s game is he has become a good 200ft player. This will be an integral part to the overall success of said player.

J.R. Avon’s speed sets him apart from most in the OHL. He has great energy and a compete level that would work well in the AHL for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in his first professional season. What he has succeeded at this season is his play without the puck, winning those necessary battles to move the play up ice. Just imagine how J.R. Avon will look at camp in the Fall after coming off a great season for the Petes. He also has netted nine goals and registered six assists in 23 games played.
