Last season was a figuring out year for the Flyers and their proud faithful. They struggled at times, were good at times, and were downright awful at times. It was a bit of a roller coaster. However, they did play hard through all of this.
Cam York is ready for the big show and talks about his first season under John Tortorella, “Yeah, I mean that’s something I try to do every game. Obviously, some games it doesn’t work out, you know, I hear about it. Like Tortorella said, he’s on me often about it and it’s something that I try to bring every game (200ft game). Obviously sometimes it doesn’t go my way, or I’ll make a mistake or a turnover and it doesn’t end up well, but it’s something when I feel like I’m playing my best I am really aggressive and I think he sees that too,” York said at exit interviews.
York became a better and more resilient player with starting out with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms last season. He matured a bit, and then got recalled in December. The youth, like York seeing regular game action might incline people to buy a ticket or two. People want to see York, possibly Egor Zamula, Emil Andrae, Ronnie Attard, Tyson Foerster, and Elliot Desnoyers play during this free fall or rebuild. All of these aforementioned players should get a shot to see what they have at some points this coming season.
It appears York wants to help the Flyers right the ship, as he vows to take the next step in his development. Mind you, York has been training and dieting in Voorhees, NJ since early June in preparations of this upcoming season:
“Again I felt like I came in in really good shape. 195, that was the most I’ve ever weighed in my life, and Dan Warnke and DeRick O’Connell do a great job here. I think they can really help my game off the ice and that’s something I definitely need to focus on this summer again, continue to have a big summer and get ready for next year.”

York is a confident blueliner and skates well. One of the best qualities he possesses is on the offensive side of the puck, his shot accuracy. He hits the net nine times out of ten, and he showed that while quarterbacking the top Power Play unit at times last season. York was great with cycling the puck, and holding the pucks in at the blue line thus extending zone play for the Flyers. These are attributes he was known for while playing with a renown program like the University of Michigan.
The sky is the limit for York, but he appears confident on the left side, as opposed to the right side. Maybe he can be paired with newly acquired Marc Staal, so Staal could tutor and make him a better player. York will obviously make the team, as he envisions gaining more valuable experience in the NHL. Last season for the Flyers was very murky (To say it nicely), now it’s up to the young prized prospects to showcase what they can do this season.
