Dan Vladar and Joseph Woll are expected to form a more stable goaltending tandem for the Flyers in 2026-27.
The Flyers acquired Woll (along with defenseman Simon Benoit) from the Toronto Maple Leafs on June 16, 2026, in exchange for goalie Sam Ersson, defenseman Emil Andrae, and a 2026 third-round pick. Woll slots in as the primary partner/backup for Vladar, who had a strong breakout-type year with the Flyers (29-14-7, 2.42 GAA, .906 Save Percentage in 52 games in 2025-26) and later signed a five-year, $27.5 million extension.
This move is an upgrade over Sam Ersson and a way to give Dan Vladar reliable support so he stays fresher and the crease is more dependable overall. Woll is viewed as capable of handling a significant share of starts and providing a “gamer” alternative, even after a down 2025-26 season in Toronto (15-16-7, 3.34 GAA, .899 Save Percentage). Both goalies and Flyers management have publicly talked about building a supportive tandem that pushes each other.
Woll is widely seen as turning goaltending from a relative weakness into a potential strength and source of stability for the Flyers.
