“With the 22nd pick in the 2006 Draft, The Philadelphia Flyers select Claude Giroux.” These words will forever be in the hearts of Philadelphia Flyers fans forever.  Sadly, some fans don’t think that as much anymore. Lately, the Captain of the Flyers has dealt with much criticism, as his play starts to shift from a a top point leader in the league, to what some would say, becoming a “liability to the team.”  I am here to make those fans think twice about wanting to trade, or move on from our beloved Captain.

For over 10 years, “Captain Claude” has brought a level of energy that not many players could provide to a team.  From the opening hit on Sidney Crosby (sorry for cursing) in the 2012 Playoff series with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Better known as “The shift,” then following with a statement goal to what would eventually get the flyers passed the Penguins to seal the deal in the “Battle of Pennsylvania.” The Shootout goal against the division rival New York Rangers, which would transpire to a epic run to the 2010 Stanley Cup finals-their first since 1997. In which he provided 21 points in 23 games for the team. These are just some of the memorable moments and stats the Captain has provided for fans everywhere.

Claude Giroux sits among the league leaders in points throughout his career with 800 points now. Those acquired by way of 250 goals, and 550 assists in 875 games played. He sits behind Sidney Crosby (1,245), Alexander Ovechkin (1,211) and Patrick Kane (938). That being said, I ask this question, Why would anyone want to move on from such an elite player? Come on people!!!! On The day after Giroux hits 800 points for his career. I think it’s time we all sit back, take a breath, grab our favorite snack and beverage, and get ready for the flyers to face off with their next opponent. I believe Giroux will continue to have a huge impact this season, and it’s about time all of you think that as well. Thank you Claude Giroux for all that you are for this city as a player, a Captain, and a role model for young players everywhere.

That’s my story- and I’m sticking to it!
