First Period

Tyler Weiss started in this heavily penalized tilt, with an even-strength goal just 4:42 into the game. Ryan Chyzowski, the former Growler netted his game-tying goal on the man advantage right before the TV timeout, at 7:20. Weiss struck again this time on the power-play, taking full advantage of the Adam Brubacher interference penalty at the 9:20 mark. Brubacher received two sentences in the frame, the interference minor and a high-sticking infraction late in the frame. Shots were even at 10, but Newfoundland led 2-1 after 1.

Second Period

Adam Brubacher came out with vengeance, potting home the game-tying goal just 34 seconds into the period. Grant Cruikshank regained the Growlers’ lead with a snipe over the glove of Maier at 3:12. Adam Brubacher yet again with a response, this one the power-play deflecting the shot past the netminder, McKay at 5:26. Newfoundland would receive a power-play on a Solag Bakich call at 10:57 and the Growlers’ would take advantage. Todd Skirving netted the power-play tally deflecting a shot of his own to put the Growlers in front. Jackson Berezowski extended the Newfoundland lead, sliding the juicy rebound into the awning cage at 14:52. Brock Caufield found twine taking full advantage of Reading’s turnover in the D-Zone, just 22 seconds after the last tally at 15:14. Ryan Chyzownski capped off the scoring for the frame with a power-play goal at 17:52. Solag Bakich, and Tate Singleton didn’t get to see the 3rd period, both receiving game misconducts. Bakich for being the “Third Man In” and Singleton for continuing the altercation.

Third Period

A quiet period at the Mary’s Brown Centre was the 3rd. Reading going into the frame led shots 22-16, despite trailing 6-4 on the score that matters. Serron Noel capped off Newfoundland’s opening night win, with an empty netter at 18:50.
