The Flyers have needs within the system. One is a sniper, otherwise known as a natural goal scorer. Moreover, a player that is not afraid or hesitant to shoot the puck. A player that is tenacious on the forecheck who will stick up for his teammates.
A player on the Flyers radar that Chuck Fletcher will have eyes set on if the Flyers keep the 13th pick is Chaz Lucius. Lucius is a Center that can score at will, and is not afraid to shoot the puck. Gone are the days players are soft on the Flyers, as Lucius has some nastiness to his game.
Lucius has an arsenal of moves as he goes in between his legs to score, as he razzles and dazzles with the best of them. He tallied 11 goals in the 2019-20 season in the first seven games for the USDP (US National and he finished the season with 31. Simply put, he scored goals and backchecks with ease.
His defense is underrated as he disrupts the neutral zone and creates turnovers. One area of his game that can improve is his burst with skating. He’s a good skater, but that’s about the only area of his game that could see immediate improvement.
The 18-year-old prospect in Lucius currently plays for the United States National Team Development Program’s U-18 squad, but he has committed to the University of Minnesota in the Fall. He was born in Grant, Minnesota, and he hasn’t stopped playing hockey since. Lucius suffered a knee injury that required surgery before the 2020-21 season began. However, when Lucius did finally play in February he was rather productive. He played in 18 games and garnered a 1.5 point per game average, which was the third highest in the entire USHL. This was impressive, especially coming off a knee injury that required surgery, and he saw limited ice time in his first 12 games coming back from injury.
This University of Minnesota commit really has a great release, and this is a player that is a comparable to Elias Lindholm. He stands at 6’0 and weighs 172 pounds. Lucius could make Flyers fans forget about passing on Cole Caufield, and if the Flyers do not trade the 13th overall pick. Lucius will be on the eyes of Fletcher.
A shooter’s touch, a shooter’s touch is what Lucius possesses
You have me drooling !
