Cam York has established himself as one of the top Flyers prospects in the system in just a matter of a few years. After this past weekend it’s no secret as to why, he’s just poised, confident, and infusing this young talented Michigan team with confidence.
York was a very unselfish player this past weekend as he stuck up for his teammate John Beecher after he was leveled with an ugly hit by Jacob Wilson who plays for Arizona State on Sunday night. He made some crisp tape to tape passes that led to offensive rushes, kept pucks in at the blue line on the Power Play, and had a niche for the net.
This young 19-year-old in York had a marvelous weekend. He finished the weekend with one goal and three assists, was a plus 3, and registered 11 shots on net in both of Michigan’s victories against Arizona State (8-1 Saturday, 3-0 Sunday). York is very good with gap control as he’s like a leech on his opponents, and suffocates his opponents at the blue line. He has become excellent with quick zone exits, which leads to him joining the rush up the ice.

He’s not the fastest skater, but he’s a solid skater. York is an intelligent hockey player, has a good hockey sense, and knows when to pinch at the right times. York makes his teammates better, and he sticks up for them. John Beecher was leveled on Sunday night by Jacob Wilson. He didn’t like the hit and went after Wilson. I did not know York was known for this type of feistiness, but Flyers fans love players like this.
The season is just beginning for NCAA hockey, but the University of Michigan and York proved this past weekend that they are the real deal. Hopefully York continues to play at a high level, and will sign his Entry-Level-Contract at season’s end with the Flyers.
