The World Junior Summer Showcase is quite an event for young prospects. It’s always fun filled in the summer time, and it gives fans and media alike a chance to see those new draftees/draft eligible prospects. Without further delay, Here is how some Flyers prospects fared yesterday.

Noah Powell

Although, he didn’t get on the score sheet in the 5-3 victory, Powell was decisive and physical.

Powell almost threw down the mitts a few times yesterday, but what I liked was he was always around the net. That’s his bread and butter, I mean being in areas to score a dirty goal. Team USA has off today, so let’s see how he fares during the rest of the fun tournament.

Heikki Ruohonen

Ruohonen’s speed was on display once again on Monday. I’ll be the first to admit I underestimated his skating abilities, not that I thought he was a bad skater when the flyer selected him, but now I see why the Flyers moved up and grabbed him.

Standing at 6’1 and weighing 196 pounds, he is very muscular for his age. Ruohonen is only 17, but he has a strong hockey IQ. He’s been in the right positions to make the right play, and although he didn’t get on the score sheet yesterday, it wasn’t for lack of effort. Ruohonen was buzzing, and even had a nice chance on a breakaway built off his speed.

The Flyers could have something in the future with Ruohonen. Ruohonen is opening my eyes in just two games played, especially for a guy that models his game after Alexander Barkov, Ruohonen said after he was drafted.

Jack Berglund

The Flyers first selection in the second round, 51 overall, was Center Jack Berglund from Sweden. He stands at 6’4 and weighs 210 pounds. Not the fastest skater, but not a bad skater for his size either.

The young, slick gifted Center in Berglund played a solid two-way game yesterday. He gets to the dirty areas to score, and has a lethal wrist shot, as well. He has an aggressive edge to his game, and he board battled with the best of them. Berglund loves camping out in front of the net, and that is how he drew at least one penalty yesterday. He’s just very hard to move off the puck, and that is something that will benefit the Flyers in the future.

Berglund tallied 15 goals and 19 assists for Färjestad BK J20 team in 41 games played. So it comes as no shock, his recent success has filtered into this tournament.
