Garrett Wilson is a player that some Flyers fans may not know, but one they should get to know, especially if he makes the Flyers roster on opening night, which is a possibility as he is one of the 13 Forwards that are kept by the organization after the latest rounds of cuts.

A native of Barrie, ON, Canada, Wilson stands at 6’3 and weighs 218 pounds. He can be physical at times, and Wilson has NHL experience. Wilson has played 84 games in the NHL, and has tallied two goals and six assists for his efforts. The last time he saw action in the NHL was in the 2018-19 season, where he played 50 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Wilson, 30, was an alternate captain for the Phantoms last season. He played in 27 games for the Phantoms, and for his efforts he was rewarded with an AHL contract for this coming season. He scored one goal with eight assists for nine points last season for the Phantoms. The highly respected and rugged winger has worn an “A” or “C” with four different teams, as Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher revamps the leadership not only with the Flyers but the Phantoms, as well. Zayde Wisdom and Tyson Foerster have been on record saying that Wilson has mentored them.

This native of Ontario in Wilson is not afraid to stick up for his teammates. That is what separates him from a lot of players, but he is skilled n the same token. Wilson’s scoring abilities may have not of translated to the NHL level from his Junior days where he tallied 40 goals and 46 assists for the Owen Sound Attack, but he is still a leader. Wilson is one that can pot a big goal at times. He has tallied 95 goals, and registered 119 assists in 440 AHL games played.

Some people may have not have heard about Wilson, but once again he is one of the 13 Forwards left at camp with a realistic shot at making the team. If he does make the Flyers they would have to sign him to an NHL contract before opening night.

Loose Ends:

it is possible that Claude Giroux moves back to Center with Morgan Frost being one of the latest casualty of notable cuts.
