The Wells Fargo Center was not packed last night, rather it was the polar opposite, very empty. Vaccine mandates have been lifted, fans no longer have to wear masks, so really it’s just about the product on-ice at this time. Lou Nolan, the Flyers public address announcer, announced that 13,856 people attended last night’s game against a good Minnesota Wild team I might add.
Flyers fans are very passionate, and continue to show this even in a dark and gloomy season. Moreover, they still find themselves watching a Flyers product that cannot close out games, makes turnover after turnover, blow leads, and obviously have no shot at the playoffs. They may not be in attendance, but fans continue to support this team from their house on the good ole’ television.
“We can either really get together here and battle through this and become a better team or you can be frustrated going into games not feeling right and next thing you know a mistake happens and things snowball where we can pick each other up,” Mike Yeo said post-game following the loss to the Wild. “I made some mistakes, our whole team made mistakes and this is where we gotta bail each other out and that’s what good teams do. That team made a lot of mistakes too but they kept fighting, they kept pushing for each other and then they found a way to win. We didn’t do that as soon as adversity struck we crumbled.”
Flyers fans that are not season ticket holders for that matter, are not pumping money into this team with buying a ticket to games at least lately that is. However, they are bringing strong ratings on national television. According to sportsmediawatch.com, the Flyers-Boston Bruins game that was played on Thursday January 13, 2022, was third most watched game this season in the NHL. Asides from opening weekend, the Winter Classic (Blues-Wild), and the Thanksgiving showdown between the New York Rangers-Boston Bruins, believe it or not the Flyers are still watchable from home. The Flyers continue to bring in strong ratings on television once again this season.

While the Flyers struggle to put butts in the seats, Flyers fans continue to support their beloved Flyers. Fans are not going to spend hard-earned money in this economy on a team that is a very inconsistent product, give the fans a reason to come out, whether that would be obtaining a star player or with calling up some young prospects. Flyers fans in particular would attend games, even if they were not in contention, with a more consistent product and a direction. Hopefully, the front office will address these issues at the trade deadline and in the offseason.
