The Flyers are now 2-4 in their last 6 games. At least they played really well in those two wins though, right? Not so much. In the first win, a 4-3 nail biter against the Penguins, the Flyers were down 3-0 just four minutes into the game. They did show some resiliency though, coming back with four straight goals of their own. In the second win, similarly, the Flyers were down 3-1 going into the second period. They ended up going into a 4-4 shootout against the Sabres and were able to scrape out the two points. Now let’s get into those four losses. Actually, let’s not.

It’s pretty obvious that the Flyers are going through a rough time. It’s sort of strange. We keep hearing and seeing that the talent is definitely there. So what’s the issue? Is it goaltending? Defense? Coaching? Gritty?

Well let’s get one thing straight, Gritty is definitely not the problem. Honestly, it’s hard to tell what the real issue is. Goaltending hasn’t been stellar, but then again, our defense hasn’t been amazing either. Those two things do not go well together at all. In a short season like this, you need consistency more than anything else. The Flyers have been the opposite. As of late, we’ve been struggling to string together solid games in a row.

At the end of the day, I think we all know there’s not just one thing holding this team back. The point is, whether it’s goaltending, defense, chemistry, or staying up too late watching Breaking Bad, something on this team MUST change. Again, this season is brutal with a capital B. Every game is crucial and every game lost is heartbreaking. The Flyers need to string some wins together and fast or else, well we all know.

The Flyers will face off against the Capitals once again on Saturday at 7PM.

  1. No team leadership. We hear the same old shit from guys like Giroux after every loss – taking responsibility and promising to get better – same story for a decade. Problem is, he does nothing to get better – and in fact disappears for stretches like now – you barely hear his name called during some games.
They have talent, but you need that catalyst leader that inspires with great play, not words – and the Flyers don’t have that guy right now.
Fuck, at this point I’d take Crosby on this team over G or Voracek – and I hate the crybaby, but at least he plays with heart and doesn’t just talk like he has some.

  2. I agree. Same leaders for years now with the same results. The Flyers have more talent than many teams that perform better because their players step up when needed. I think there are a few on the team; Couturier, Konecny, Provorov – even Hayes and Farabee…but the highest paid guys like Giroux and Voracek play like bums at times and offer the same BS excuses after each loss – I don’t think losing really bothers them as much as it should – and that’s why they never seem to get any better or show more heart. I wish there’d be a big shakeup with those two and we could start over with the core – just some better leaders. We did this a delecade ago when getting rid of Mike Richards and Jeff Carter – maybe it’s time to clean house again!
