Michigan State’s season ended yesterday with an overtime loss to Wisconsin in the NCAA tournament, so Porter Martone’s college eligibility is now over. Multiple reports indicate the Flyers and the 2025 first-round pick (6th overall) are expected to move quickly on his entry-level contract (ELC).

Timeline Details:

  • Signing: He will sign as early as today (Sunday, March 29) or Monday.
  • Debut: He will be in the lineup Tuesday vs. Washington Capitals — which would be a huge boost for a Flyers team fighting for positioning down the stretch.

This lines up with broader chatter: once his NCAA season wrapped up, the path opened for an immediate pro transition. He won’t burn a year of his ELC until he plays his 10th NHL game, so the Flyers can ease him in without long-term cap/developmental consequences right away.

Martone had a strong freshman year at Michigan State (around 50 points in 35 games as a power forward with size and skill). Fans and the organization have been hyped about getting a look at him before the season ends.
