E222 – Briere Leaning Into The Fourth Year Of The Rebuild
The 2024 NHL Entry Draft has finally come and gone and with the free agency frenzy over, the Flyers roster now looks mostly set heading into the 2024-25 NHL season. Patience in the city of Philadelphia lasts about one season and as soon as that time runs out, the impatience of certain segments of the fanbase sets in and creates a loud minority that like to rewrite recent history to fit a narrative. Even though GM, Daniel Briere, has done an excellent job setting this team up for a cup window, there are fans who are eager to say ‘I told you so’ and jump the gun on criticism before it’s warranted. It’s important to not get too wrapped into the online drama as the Flyers’ plans have not fully been revealed to the public, but are well embedded in their financials and Draft plan for the 2025 offseason and beyond. Not only is the organization slowly freeing up millions of dollars from the salary cap each year after this one, but the organization also amassed more picks in the 2025’s top two rounds than I have ever seen in my 25+ years watching the team. Oh yeah, and Matvei Michkov, the franchise level prospect, will be starting with the team two years early.
On this episode of Gettin’ Gritty Wit It, Yariv and Vasili dig into what Flyers fans can expect going into the 2024-25 NHL season and how the team is prepared for a wide variety of scenarios. The truth is in the money and the draft picks and it tells you a lot of what the team is doing moving forward. Like and subscribe for more content from Flyers Nitty Gritty!
