After a gauntlet of the most difficult teams in the eastern conference, the Flyers remain alive in the playoff race as they tentatively hold third place in the Metro division. After some shakey games, the Flyers managed to pull their battered and bruised defensive core together and play some of their best hockey of the season. Even though they found themselves unable to finish the job on a few nights, they did end up a with a decent 2 wins, 3 losses, and 2 overtime losses at the end of the seven game spree facing a slew of legitimate Stanley Cup contenders.
The Flyers also had some drama where they saw Sean Couturier benched for two games for performance issues and speculated injury, after being demoted to the fourth line and reduced minutes. A position that sparked controversy among the Flyers online community. While, the controversy brought fire online, it did the same thing for the roster on the ice. While a controversial move by coach John Tortorella, it might have been the spark the team needed to swing the valuable points they needed.
