Johnny Hockey (Johnny Gaudreau) should absolutely be out there skating for Team USA right now. It’s heartbreaking that he and his brother Matthew were taken from us in 2024, but the way the team is honoring his legacy at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan is truly special.

His No. 13 jersey has been hanging in the U.S. locker room throughout the tournament as a constant tribute, and players like Charlie McAvoy have said he’s “looking down on us right now… smiling as we’re getting ready to play for a gold medal.”
His family—including wife Meredith, their daughter Noa, and parents Jane and Guy—are in Italy cheering on the team, especially after the big 6-2 semifinal win over Slovakia that punched their ticket to the final.

The gold-medal game against Canada is today (Sunday, February 22), and the whole narrative is that they’re playing for him—one of America’s all-time great international players who dreamed of Olympic gold. His family even shared that representing Team USA at the Olympics was one of his greatest dreams.Fingers crossed the U.S. pulls it off and brings home that first men’s hockey Olympic gold since 1980. Do it for Johnny.
Let’s go USA
