Chuck Fletcher gave updates on some Flyers prospects on Monday following the trade deadline. Some goaltending prospects continue to battle injuries, thus it prevented Fletcher from parting ways with backup netminder Martin Jones.
Samuel Ersson- Out for the season
Kirill Ustimenko- Still battling through injuries
Felix Sandström- Sandström, although he he is healthy he continues to battle through injuries
“Ersson is out for the season,” Chuck Fletcher said on Monday following the trade deadline why he decided not to trade backup netminder Martin Jones. “Ustimenko is still battling injuries. Sandström is healthy now but has been battling injuries. We wanted to be a little bit careful here when we have 20 games to go and Lehigh Valley is battling for a playoff spot. If there was something meaningful, we would’ve looked at it. Nothing really materialized.”
Fletcher continued, “There were some other conversations on a few of the other guys, but nothing really materialized.”
Pat Nagle was recalled from the Reading Royals yesterday, and some of these aforementioned injuries to these netminders might be the reason why.
Regardless of the situation, the goal is for the Phantoms to make the playoffs. Let’s hope they continue to find their rhythm, en route to the AHL playoffs. Fletcher did the right move and kept Jones, so he didn’t have to pull from what appears to be an already depleted Phantoms team between the pipes.
