Ty Murchison is a Left-Handed Defenseman who played for the US National U18 Team USDP Program, and Arizona State University. He stands at 6’2 and weighs 192 pounds, and he had to be signed by June 1, 2025, or else he would have become a free agent.

Today, Murchison signed a two-year ELC (Entry-Level-Contract) with the Flyers. Murchison plays with an edge to his game, and really was a blessing he was still on the draft board in the fifth round in 2020-21.

“Ty Murchison played on the U.S. Development program. He’s a California kid. Good size, very good mobility, and plays an aggressive style. He’s going to have to probably learn to tone things down a little bit as far as picking his spots when to be aggressive. A kid that comes to play, plays hard and brings an aggressive nature which is great. He’s going to Arizona State and obviously he was really excited to be drafted today.” – Brent Flahr Flyers Assistant General Manager said following Murchison being selected

This young native of the United States was born on February 2, 2003 in Corona, CA. Murchison may very well become the second player from California to play for this proud franchise in recent years, as Cam York is a native the Golden State. Murchison closes gaps well, and can skate.

The young 18-year-old prospect worked his tail off in the offseason to improve his game. There is some rawness to him, overall he doesn’t give his opposition much room to operate. Murchison can be offensive at times, but the Flyers selected him because of his aggressiveness.

Maybe he can help the Lehigh Valley Phantoms with their playoff push. The Flyers have until June 1, 2025 to sign Carter Sotheran, Matteo Mann, and Brian Zanetti or they become Free Agents.
