The Flyers were embarrassed in the Capitol, as the Washington Capitals blew the doors off of the Flyers. The orange and black were up 2-0 at one point, only to have that lead erased in a 5-2 loss.

It was that bad that Bobby Brink and Olle Lycksell did not see the ice in the third period. Yet again the Flyers had an opportunity to separate themselves from the rest of the pack in the Metropolitan Division, and they failed to do so.

“Not with the stupidity prior, that’s it, not with the stupidity, not seeing the ice,” John Tortorella said of Bobby Brink’s bad play in the second period. Both Brink and Lycksell are caught defensively in bad positioning, but they are young and will learn. They have to learn from these mistakes, and they will in time.

Flyers’ Head Coach John Tortorella I think vented with frustration saying “Get the f..k off the ice,” to Brink. He’s passionate, and wants to win. I think at the end of the day he smoothed things over with Brink, in particular, but he has to understand these are youth. They have to learn from said mistakes. Does that mean both are out of the lineup today for Cam Atkinson? Possibly, but they will be given a shot to learn from these mistakes.

“I don’t think we are playing bad just got a couple of bad bounces, little details maybe,” Sean Couturier said following the game. He’s right to a certain extent, but they played horribly in the second and third periods. That second period may have been their worst period of the season, everyone seemed to be out of position and couldn’t make plays.

In the end, the Flyers have a chance to rebound tonight as they host Claude Giroux and the Senators.
