Trevor Zegras expressed happiness and excitement for his close friend Jack Hughes and the rest of the American Olympians after Team USA won the Gold Medal in men’s hockey at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina.

Team USA defeated Canada 2-1 in overtime, with Jack Hughes scoring the golden goal—the first U.S. Olympic hockey Gold since the Miracle on Ice in 1980.

Zegras, now with the Flyers, watched the game intently with other American players on the team. He and Hughes have been longtime friends, having grown up together in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program. In post-practice comments to the media on February 22, 2026 (right after the final), Zegras said:

  • “Yeah, it was sweet. Obviously, I kind of grew up with Jack in the US program. I mean they played so great and for him to get the winner, it was crazy. So, cool.”
  • He described it as “the coolest thing ever,” called Hughes “my good buddy,” and praised him: “He’s so good. I’m glad he had such a great tournament and capped it off with the greatest USA hockey goal we’ve seen in however many years, so pretty amazing.”
  • Zegras emphasized supporting his buddies: “For me, it was more like supporting like your buddies. I trained with a couple of those guys in the summer, so it was more supporting them and being happy for them and cheering for them.”
