Trevor Zegras was traded to the Flyers from the Anaheim Ducks on June 23, 2025, in exchange for forward Ryan Poehling, a 2025 second-round pick (No. 45 overall), and a 2026 fourth-round pick. The 24-year-old forward expressed excitement about the move, stating, “I’m excited as heck to be a Flyer,” and highlighted his enthusiasm for joining a storied franchise with passionate fans, “My initial reaction was a little bit of both,” Zegras said,. “You are really excited when you hear the team, but then you also think about the time you spent in Anaheim with your teammates and friends there. When I heard it was Philly, I was excited because I’m best buddies with Jamie and Cam. It’s exciting when you have a familiar face like that in a new place and new home, so it’s cool.”

Zegras continues, “There’s highs and lows that come with it. It definitely gets your head spinning a little bit, but definitely not an excuse or anything like that. Now that’s all behind me and I’m excited as heck for a new start in Philadelphia with some awesome people and a new organization. I’m definitely pumped.”

He also noted the opportunity to reunite with close friend and former Ducks teammate Jamie Drysdale, as well as potentially Cam York, “Jamie stinks at tennis. He’s a good golfer though. Did you see his hole in one the other day?”

The 24-year-old in Zegras, had 32 points (12 goals, 20 assists) in 57 games this past season with Anaheim. Zegras is hoping he gets a shot down the middle, “I played center my whole career until two seasons ago, and I’ve always felt more comfortable there,” Zegras explained yesterday. “There are definitely areas I need to work, whether it’s the face-off circle, or below the goal line, in front of the net in the D‑Zone. I think it was good to play the Wing, and learn that position and the responsibilities. We will see where it goes with the new coach and the team, but it would be exciting to be back in the middle for sure.”

Flyers’ General Manager Danny Briere Is hoping that Zegras can fill a void down the middle, but both parties (Zegras and Briere) did say that Tocchet would have the final decision, of Zegras plays Center or Wing., “I have had good buddies play for him,” Zegras said of new Flyers’ Head Coach Rick Tocchet. Zegras also said he spoke to him on the phone on Monday, and that he’s heard nothing but good about him.
