Trevor Zegras had a solid outing at Center in the Flyers’ 4-2 victory over the Washington Capitals on February 3, 2026.

This was his third straight game Centering for the Flyers since shifting back to his natural position (he was acquired from the Anaheim Ducks in June 2025 and had mostly played wing earlier this season under coach Rick Tocchet).

In the game against Washington, Zegras didn’t light up the scoresheet directly—but he contributed in key areas that highlight good Center play. He piicked up an assist on Jamie Drysdale’s game-winning power-play goal at 14:37 of the third—Zegras won a puck battle in the corner and fed a clean pass to Drysdale at the blue line for the one-timer that made it 3-2 (with Travis Konecny also assisting). That secondary helper pushed Zegras to 28 assists on the season, showing his playmaking is still sharp even in a position shift.

Faceoff-wise, Zegras went 3-8 overall, which isn’t elite but was an improvement from the past with limited Center reps this year—he’s been mostly on the Wing since the trade from Anaheim last Summer. His strong forechecking, backchecking, and defensive awareness was noticeable in battles and transitions, even if he didn’t score (he had a couple shots, including a snap saved by Clay Stevenson and a slap that hit the post.

This was part of his recent stretch getting looks at center under coach Rick Tocchet, and it seems to suit him—more comfortable, better puck distribution, and contributing to line chemistry. The Flyers’ Power Play clicked late, Dan Vladar stood tall with 26 saves, and goals from Owen Tippett, Carl Grundstrom, Drysdale, and an empty-netter from Rasmus Ristolainen sealed it.

Just a real solid performance overall for Zegras at his natural spot—encouraging for Flyers fans hoping he sticks there long-term.
