Many Flyers fans are more hyped after Porter Martone signed his three-year entry-level contract with the Flyers on March 29, 2026.

Martone, the Flyers’ first-round pick (6th overall) in the 2025 NHL Draft, left Michigan State (where he led the team in scoring as a freshman) to join the club for the remainder of the regular season and a potential playoff push. In his media availability, he mentioned that Travis Konecny gave him a call that morning, while Travis Sanheim and Tyson Foerster reached out via text messages to welcome him to the team.

The connection makes sense: all three Flyers veterans (Konecny, Sanheim, and Foerster) played alongside Martone for Team Canada at the 2025 IIHF World Championships. Konecny and Sanheim had also advocated for drafting him and were excited when the Flyers selected him.

Martone skated with the team (including an injured Foerster) on March 30 and will make his NHL Debut today against the Washington Capitals. It’s a nice early show of team camaraderie for the 19-year-old power forward from Peterborough, Ontario.
