Travis Konecny was a force out there for Team Canada in their 7-1 rout of Latvia at the World Championships yesterday. Dropping two goals (one short-handed) and an assist in that game is huge, bringing his tournament totals to two goals and two assists in just two games played. And nice to see Travis Sanheim chipping in with an assist on one of those goals—talk about Flyers chemistry!!!

Team Canada absolutely dominated Latvia 7-1 at the World Championships. Canada’s offense was firing on all cylinders. Several Canadian players made significant contributions alongside Travis Konecny and Travis Sanheim. Kent Johnson also scored two goals, matching Konecny’s output.

Nathan MacKinnon and Macklin Celebrini each added a goal, with MacKinnon also recording assists. Sidney Crosby was pivotal with three assists, showcasing his playmaking ability. Marc-Andre Fleury, in goal, made 16 saves and earned player of the game honors in his World Championship debut. Bo Horvat contributed with an assist on MacKinnon’s goal.

Travis Konecny is indeed making a strong case at the 2025 IIHF World Championship, aiming to secure a spot on Canada’s 2026 Olympic roster. His chemistry with Flyers teammate Travis Sanheim, who assisted on one of his goals, and his prior success at the 4 Nations Face-Off, where he and Sanheim won gold, highlight his international pedigree.

Konecny has openly expressed that playing in the World Championship is a strategic move to impress Team Canada’s brass for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics, the first to feature NHL players since 2014. With a roster stacked with stars like Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon, Konecny knows he’s on the bubble but is leveraging his work ethic, versatility, and elite playmaking—evident in his career-best 76 points this NHL season—to stand out.

The World Championship, running through May 25 in Stockholm and Herning, is a critical stage for Konecny to showcase his skills ahead of Olympic selections.
