Will he or won’t he? Some fans that have started to read this article are thinking, “What the, or what is he talking about? For those that follow the Flyers on a daily basis know exactly what I am talking about, will Claude Giroux waive his NMC (No Movement Clause)? The answer lies with Giroux himself:

“The decision ultimately lies with Claude Giroux.” – Chuck Fletcher on whether Giroux gets moved or not

Giroux is aging like a fine wine, as he continues to make more Flyers history in the same process. In addition, to moving into second place all-time in Flyers history in points. He has surpassed the 600 assist plateau. Moreover, Giroux leads the Flyers in points this season with 34 (15g,19a), goals (15), assists (19). What more can he do? It was never supposed to be this way that a 34-year-old in Giroux leads the team in all scoring categories this late in his 16-year career. Some of the Flyers young home grown talent should be leading the Flyers at this stage of Giroux’s career.

“We feel like we’re doing a lot of good things but at the same time we know we can play better.” â€“ Claude Giroux said a few weeks ago

Even though the writing appears to be on the wall for a trade as highlighted above, not so fast folks. As a father of two, it’s easier said than done for him to pick up and leave to go to another city while his two kids and wife are comfortable in this city. After all, happy wife, happy life right?

Yes, he wants to win, but what if Fletcher can persuade Giroux to stay as they will be enduring a retool, not a rebuild that would consist of being 5-8 years away from contending once again. Now I’m not saying the Flyers would indeed do that when the two eventually talk about his wishes, with the trade deadline right around the corner. All I am saying is the ball is in Giroux’s court to whether he gets moved or not.

Yesterday, Flyers CEO Dave Scott said that he would be writing “Blank checks,” which means that he is willing to spend the necessary money to get this team to “Where it needs to be.” Could that involve the re-signing of Giroux? Well, again nobody knows this answer, but Giroux himself. The facts are Giroux will be a focal point from now until when the trade deadline commences. When Giroux does give his list of teams to be traded, if he does in fact do so, trust me Flyers fans you will know about it.

  1. I remember a few years back going to a game with my brother who doesn’t follow the daily grind as closely as I do. I told him it was going to be his last chance to see Wayne Simmonds in a Flyers jersey. His mind was blown “why” he says “he is everything you could want a Flyer to be?” It was our last chance to see Simmonds as a Flyer. The arena was full, Simmonds jerseys were everywhere he was always a fan favorite. Paperwork once again took precedence over heart, soul, and dedication. The Wayne Train is just part of my list of players who played with a home town intensity that really feeds the fan base. But it was time for them to go, time to move on, their prime is behind them. The crowd seems to keep thinning out and the front office laments over a lack luster team that has no heart. Those of us that follow the daily grind know why this organization has put itself in this position with Giroux. The casual observer who sees the most loyal and productive Flyer of the modern era walking away with management’s blessing will have their minds blown. …This is the same organization that could not get around to taking Jagr’s phone calls when he wanted to stay here. I bleed orange and black, but I bleed way too often.
