As training camp approaches the Flyers and their staff will have some tough decisions to make. When looking at the Flyers forward core there are certain younger players that may have a chance to make the roster. However, this is dependent on their performances throughout training camp and the pre-season.

Some of these younger players that may be poised to earn a roster spot are Tanner Laczynski, Wade Allison, Tyson Foerster and Isaac Ratcliffe.

The only thing that may be a hindrance to these forwards having a legitimate shot at making the Philadelphia Flyers opening night roster is the teams depth at wing. Currently the Flyers have an abundance of organizational depth on the wing. Obviously though if one of these young players greatly impress in camp their skill sets and upside may be too valuable to not put on the roster. As it’s apparent the Flyers may lack some scoring punch in relation to their forward group. Any advantage that can be gained in that area would certainly be welcomed. If that means a younger player is given an opportunity due to it being earned at camp then that is the ideal situation to have.

Although this would displace a veteran of a roster spot it would only speak to the Flyers depth on the wing. Along with the fact that there are always injuries throughout an NHL season. Ultimately, cementing that the more viable NHL roster players the Flyers have down the depth chart the better. As who knows when they may be called upon to play this season.

If I had to choose one candidate that could surprisingly make the Philadelphia Flyers out of training camp it would be right winger Tyson Foerster. Foerster’s skillset is quite intriguing as he has a great amount of speed within his game while moving up the wing. Which contributes to his ability to shoot the puck at such a high velocity and with power. Foerster is most well known for his shot and his ability to score which are two aspects this Flyers team does indeed lack. The young player is also a viable power play weapon due to his one-timer and the quick release that comes with it. Coupling this with Forrester’s ability to seek out and find open areas of the ice to use his shot it’s quite evident the young forward has an intriguing skillset. Considering this, it should be interesting to see how Foerster performs at training camp. His unique skill set may give him an edge in regards to making the Philadelphia Flyers opening night roster as long as he shows work ethic and a strong performance at training camp.
