There will be many questions facing this young Reading Royals team come the new season. Some questions range from how will they respond after a tough 2023-24 campaign, to which Jason Binkley took over for former Coach James Henry? Are the Royals more prepared to start the new season? These are some very valid questions that people have. A few days ago, the Royals announced the signing of a leader in Todd Skirving.

Skirving stands at 6’2 and weighs 190 pounds, and has all the skills to be a Lehigh Valley Phantom in the future possibly, based off his leadership alone. He has the talent and the billing to become the captain of this young Royals team. Skirving may not pot 30 or 40 goals, but he’s phenomenal on and off the ice to his teammates and coaching staff alike.

There is little doubt that Sellar agreed to sign, not only because he believes in the team, but there is familiarity with him formally playing for The Newfoundland Growlers. No pressure after potting eight goals last season for the Growlers.

Skirving is a two-time Kelly Cup champion, so he provides a winning pedigree to Reading, “I am excited to start a new chapter with the Reading Royals organization. Over the past several weeks, it seemed more fitting that Reading would be my next landing spot. I’m eager to build on the foundation set by Coach Binkley, his staff, and the returning players. The goal will be to make the playoffs and chase a second championship for the organization. I am looking forward to catching up with the fans that I have met over the years, while meeting some of the fans I haven’t met yet. It’s an exciting time on Penn St. and I look forward to seeing everyone soon,” Skirving said, via Reading Royals press release.
