To say it’s been rocky lately for Cam York is an understatement. He was at the forefront of former Flyers’ Head Coach John Tortorella’s firing. He was not only benched in what was now Tortorella’s last game as a Flyers Head Coach, but the following game as well against the Montreal Canadiens.

Interim Head Coach Brad Shaw said that York was benched against the Canadiens, due to disciplinary reasons. He would not give further details about the situation, as Shaw is looking to put it behind him. York has to dress that game, as they didn’t have enough bodies to dress for the game, due to using their final recall on Aleksei Kolosov. Unfortunately, the orange and black had to play with 12 Forwards, and five Defensemen again.

Through all this, York is trying to sort of put this behind him, in an effort to move forward with his teammates, “I’m not going to get into the details of it,” York said. “I take full responsibility for my actions and it has been addressed here in the locker room.”

York continues, “Sitting on the bench there in that type of game there is never fun. I never want to put my teammates in that situation again.”

No one wants to be at the center of a controversy, especially one that subsequently gets their coach terminated, but that’s exactly what has transpired. Now, York wasn’t the only reason Tortorella was terminated, but it was part of the reason. York and Tortorella’s disagreement was the final straw for Tortorella’s future as a Head Coach for the Flyers. What exactly happened, I don’t know, I just know from sources that it was part of the reason, not the only reason, Tortorella was fired by the Flyers.

Even with that, York speaks highly of Tortorella, “I have nothing bad to say (About Torts),” York said. “He taught me a lot of good things. He was a really good coach for me, and he taught me a lot of good things I could use down the road for my career. He’s a really good coach and I wish him the best.”

Now, York Will be given a chance to redeem himself today against the Buffalo Sabres. He should be energized more than ever, and he believes and not only this team, but the City of Philadelphia, “This is where I want to be. I love what’s going on here, I love what we’re building here.”
