Game 2 came and went in the blink of an eye, and the Flyers were ready from the drop of the puck scoring three early goals. That lead would fade away in a game that would go to overtime. The Flyers, however, held off the Islanders to win 4-3 in overtime, Let’s get into it.

Early Pressure

The Flyers of recent have started these playoffs quite flat. This has been a huge issue and it seems as if that hopefully was corrected going forward. The team came out and scored three goals on 10 shots in the first period, and were on the attack from the majority of the start. Have we finally a new beginning for the Flyers? Have the stars aligned?

The Flyers Top Players

They were very productive in this game. Getting goals from Kevin Hayes, who netted two goals, and a goal by Sean Couturier, as well. Claude Giroux assisted on Coots’s goal with a beautiful touch pass which turned out to be a beautiful goal. Flyers fans like to hope this could be a turnaround for the big time players.

Overtime Magic

This was the first overtime game for the Philadelphia Flyers in the bubble. Although, they ended the game quickly (2:40 to be exact), the Islanders really took control of the third period to battle back. The Flyers magic was in the air for sure, but this was leading to a complete disaster. They need to play 60 minutes of full hockey, and play hard. Fortunately, Philippe Myers potted a beauty to end the game, as he played hero.

Alain Vigneault:

“The one where we thought their player brought the puck back in and their player was still in the zone. Totally my responsibility. Bad call on my part. The linesman was right. The guy brought the puck back in but did not touch it until their player was out of the zone. Wrong call on my part. My mistake.”

“Carter played well. He gave us a chance to win. This group has been very competitive, very combative. When we’ve lost a game, there’s been an extra sense of urgency in preparation in the next game that we’re playing. Without a doubt, tonight’s game guys were ready. They were focused. They knew we had to win. They went out and found a way to get it done.”

Kevin Hayes:

“We got a lot of good defensemen in this organization. Some older than others. Those young guys, Phil, Travis, Provy and Hagger, they eat up some serious minutes. They give our team the best chance to win every night. I think Sanny and Myesy has grown tremendously this year from that start of the season until now. They’re great duo out there. They make a lot of things happen.”

“Yeah. When you lose Game 1 and your next two games are back-to-back, Game 2 is a pretty important game. I think every game is important. Tonight was the probably the most important game of the season. We responded. I thought our team played well. At the end, we gave up a little bit. It’s huge. We have a back-to-back game and it’s an overtime win. We’re feeling good about ourselves, but they’re obviously going to come hard tomorrow. Enjoy it quickly and get ready for tomorrow.”

Philippe Myers:

“Coots gave me the puck low to high there. I saw that I had a lane. I was trying to get it on the net and it went in. I’ll take it. Great feeling.”

“When we have the puck down low, they sort of collapse. I was calling the pass there from Coots. He gave it to me. I was trying to get it on net as quick as possible because I had a lane. Like I said earlier, it had a good bounce and went in. Really happy it did. We’ll take it.”

That’s my story and I’m sticking to itÂ
