The Flyers have played 63 games, and have a record of 29-23-11, good for 69 points. They’re sitting sixth in the Metropolitan Division, with a points percentage of around .548.

They are currently fighting for their playoff lives, though they’re fighting for a Wild Card spot—recently on a bit of a skid with a 5-3-2 record in their last 10 and a loss to the New York Rangers. For comparison, last season (2024-25), the Flyers finished with 33-39-10 for 76 points over the full 82 games. That was a non-playoff year, near the bottom of the Metro and league-wide struggles (negative goal differential, poor overall performance).
Are they better this year? In terms of pace and trajectory—yes, arguably. Through a similar number of games this season, they’re on a better points pace than last year’s full-season total would suggest if projected (last year’s 76 points was a .463 points percentage; this year’s .548 is noticeably higher). Key improvements include:
- Better goaltending (e.g., additions like Dan Vladar contributing to a stronger SV%).
- Strong play from forwards like Travis Konecny (leading with ~57 points) and Trevor Zegras (adding significant offense).
- Overall team scoring and defensive metrics showing marginal gains, with players like Cam York stepping up under new coaching (Rick Tocchet now behind the bench).

Points wise, the orange and black might be a better team than last year, but it’s only a four or five point improvement from the prior year. Nothing earth-shattering like 10 plus points. Flyers’ Head Coach Rick Tocchet has had a handful of PR disasters with young Superstar Matvei Michkov, In terms of Michkov’s ice time and not coming to camp “In shape”. Coupled with Tocchet being stubborn with not playing Michkov on the right side, aside that Michkov has openly stated he likes to play.
Tocchet also plays the vets over the youth (eg. Noah Juulsen over Emil Andrae), even with the Flyers clearly being stuck in purgatory and way out of the playoff picture. Truthfully, Tocchet’s dump and chase style system at times is a bit boring to watch. It honestly gives a feeling that their Flyers are stuck in the mud over the course of the past decade, just with better Goaltending, with the liked of Dan Vladar.
Right now on the surface, this team is a mess. That was made evident after one of the most embarrassing losses in the past decade, a 6-2 blowout to a team that was openly tanking this past Monday night at home nonetheless.. It’s okay to lose, but it’s how you lose.
The team just looked deflated and uninterested this past Monday night. This looked like a team that was defeated after some of their friends were traded at the trade deadline last week. This looked like a team that was defeated, and Flyers fans are just supposed to be happy about it. Lose with pride, lose trying to battle for Vladar, who has really played very well throughout the course of the season. All in all, this team has been very reminiscent of teams that Flyers fans have seen over the course of the past decade, a team that is defeated/deflated with nothing left in the tank.
The 2025-26 Flyers team is a team that is stuck in the mud —goal differential is still-17, and they’ve had inconsistencies. They’re in rebuilding/tanking mode like parts of last year. If they keep this up, the orange and black will miss the playoffs for sixth consecutive season. Last year was more of a step back; this feels like more of the same old song.
