Hockey is more than a sport. It’s about camaraderie, family. Flyers’ Head Coach John Tortorella proves that with the way he treated Tanner Laczynski and his wife Madison. Tanner and Madison are new parents as their new healthy baby boy was born this past Saturday at 12:28am on October 29, 2022.

Tortorella gave Laczynski two or three days off to be with his wife, and he said he wasn’t coming back here, “Have to remember what we’re doing here,” Tortorella said. “We are entertainers, there was no way he was coming back here. His wife had a long night for her, that stuff is more important.” With being a parent myself and experiencing both of my children’s birth’s, fortunately, this means a lot to have your boss in your corner. Tanner is a new NHL’er who is fighting to stay in the lineup every game, but to have the support of his head coach during one of the best experiences of his life means a lot. It’s easy to say you are there for someone, but actions prove more than words. Torts gets it.

“I had a discussion with him (John Tortorella), he said you know just go be with your family. It was a nice to have those two or three days off to be there for my wife and our beautiful boy.” – Tanner Laczynski

Torts might be a hard-nosed coach, who commands a lot from his players. But his players go to battle with the way he treats families and them. I’m sure anyone who is a parent on this team, respected Torts with the way he handled the situation during the season. Thankfully his wife and his baby are both healthy and doing fine, now it’s time for Tanner to get some sleep, “Pretty tired, but we got this bus trip to catch up on some sleep,” Laczynski said.

The lineup has not been given for tonight’s game against the New York Rangers, but one thing is for certain Tanner will be eligible to play in this game. Congratulations to the Laczynski’s they’re great on the birth of their great baby boy.
