Lettttttttt the bells ring, the Seattle Kraken have made the their selections in the expansion draft. The lucky Philadelphia Flyer to be leaving town is no other than Carsen Twarynski. It was mandatory for Vegas to select one player from each of the 30 NHL teams.
A shock to most, Twarynski, signed an a three-year ELC on March 11, 2018. Twarynski has been given every opportunity to impress Head Coach Alain Vigneault and the Flyers top brass, unfortunately he could not put it all together. He is best buds with Flyers prospect Connor Bunnaman.
The Canadian native, played in any situation the coaching staff asked of him, to include going between the Taxi Squad roster and main roster at times last season after being waived for cap purposes. It became growingly clear that the writing was on the wall for Twarynski and the Flyers for a breakup at some point, as the Flyers are nearing the 50 total contract threshold.
At 23-years-old, Twarynski wanted to remain a Flyer. He was nothing short of a class act, and he seemed poised for the upcoming season. For his career with the Flyers, he has registered one goal for a total of one point in 22 games played. Twarynski just couldn’t find that niche with the orange and black that he had sustained as a member of the Kelowna Rockets during his tenure in Junior hockey. Maybe a fresh start with the Kraken will be what the doctor ordered for Twarynski.
I’ll remember Carsen Twarynski for when Chuck Fletcher called him down to the hotel lobby in Prague following a game. He was met by his parents to which he told them he made the team and he would be in the lineup that Friday. Now he heads to Seattle. Best of luck Carsen.
Attention will now turn to Friday night, where the Flyers have the 13th overall pick. However, hopefully Chuck Fletcher is able to bring Tyler Pitlick back home to Philadelphia, as they, along with the Calgary Flames are rumored to be frontrunners for Pitlick services, per Elliotte Friedman.
