FLYERS 2020 NHL DRAFT (2)

Flyers’ General Manager Chuck Fletcher had multiple options, and good ones, at pick 23 in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft. He chose to select a sniper with a dynamite shot in Tyson Foerster.

“I feel like I play a similar game to T.J. Oshie. I can be out there in any situation and score some goals too. I feel like he’s a good player comparison for myself.”- Tyson Foerster

Forester is a beast in Junior hockey while playing for the Barrie Colts, as he razzles and dazzles opponents. He also torches opposing Goaltender’s on a nightly basis, as well. Goaltender’s are usually left banging their sticks on the Cross Bar of the net after Forester beats them.

This young 18-year-old in Foerster just has a knack for the net. His skating is improving, but Foerster managed to smoke his opponents during the 2019-20 season as he finished with 36 goals, and 44 assists for a total of 80 points in 62 games played. Forester is an absolute monster down the middle or on the Wing, “I don’t mind playing either of them,” Forester said. “Whatever the coach wants me to do, that’s where I’ll play.”

By the time opponents are aware of Forester in most cases he has blown by them the other way, while creating a scoring chance their own zone. Forester is blessed with gifted hands, as he makes crisp tape to tape passes. His shot is heavy and accurate. Forester does not hesitate to shoot, thus making him a sniper not a playmaker. He is a goal scorer’s dream, and he gets to dirty areas, as well, to pot a goal.

The Colts product, Foerster has great vision and gets into the open areas of the ice. He is just so tough to move off the puck it becomes tall tasks for defenseman to catch up to him after he has blown by them. Many defensemen are not like Myers that possess a quick first step and have long strides to be able to catch up to Forester once he hits the open area of the ice.

Fortunately, Forester is so darn talented offensively he can breakout out anytime. He appears to be a giddy kid, good character guy in the locker room, and I have not heard one bad thing about him. Forester most likely will head back to the Colts, but he has the tools to break out when his arises for the Flyers. The key for any player like Forester is to stay healthy. In Foerster “We trust.”
