Carter Hart was phenomenal in 2019-20, a season in which he killed it, while finishing with a record of 24-13-3, a 2.42 GAA, and a .914 Save Percentage. Moreover, Hart also got his first taste of NHL playoffs as he compiled a record of 9-5 with a 2.23 GAA, and a .926 Save Percentage. Fans throughout the World were clamoring Hart as the savior of the franchise in just his first full season as a Flyers goalie.

Amidst the whirlwind end to 2018 and thunderous start to the new year in 2019, Hart was actually living in Hotel rooms, yet somehow, the rookie remained composed and was well rounded in his starts. This kid electrified the fan base, and Hart cemented himself as the main guy between the pipes for the orange and black for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately, the 2020-21 season did not go as planned for him nor the Flyers organization as a whole.

The Flyers have officially been eliminated from playoff contention, a season in which they were supposed to be Stanley Cup contenders. Hart did struggle this season, and it appeared to be an indictment of things to come as March come to an end while finishing the the month with a 2-6 record, 5.04 GAA, and a .815 Save Percentage. Now it wasn’t only his fault. The defensive breakdowns were apparent, and the Flyers puck management was abysmal. There is little a goaltender can do when they are faced with odd man rush after odd man rush, and in some cases a 3-0 rush.

This is where things seemed to snowball. The month of March in general was terrible for the Flyers as they were 8-3-2 entering March, but they ended the month of March with a 6-10-4 record, while giving up the most goals in franchise history in a single month with 75. Moreover, the Flyers have now allowed the most goals against while short-handed with 41. Carter Hart is now shutdown for the remainder of the season with a knee sprain. There is absolutely no point to risk further injury to your star netminder. Just get healthy and come back strong next season.

This is a season that everything that could go wrong has gone wrong, to include an injury to Cam York. York is one of the most prized possessions prospect wise in the Flyers farm system.

York is dealing with a nagging lower body injury. It’s just the way the season has gone for the Flyers, and there is no time table for his return. York was confident, skating well, and just so darn good with transitioning from defense to offense before his injury. One of the best qualities he possesses on the offensive side of the game is his shot accuracy. He hits the net nine times out of ten.

This young 20-year-old in York has tallied one goal, and two assists in four games played with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. He is finding his niche early in his professional career, which can only spell good news for the Flyers and Phantoms.

Before his injury he could have seen time with the orange and black, but I could see Fletcher and the Phantoms taking their time to let him heal properly before rushing him back. Whatever the case may be this season has been a weird, strange season for the Flyers organization.

  1. Cam York is way too small to play defense in the NHL He will get squashed by bigger, stronger forwards and his career will last maybe…….a month as a Flyer. Yes, he’s got decent puck moving skills, but so does Shayne Gostisbehere, who is a lot stronger and bigger than York. York should be traded to Seattle as Flyers expansion draft pick. Believe me, it makes sense. I think Seattle would accept this offer, so make it now, before the entire league realizes York is undersized.
