The Reading Royals had back-to-back matchups against the Worcester Railers this past weekend. Unfortunately, the Royals lost Friday night in overtime to the Railers, and they did not avoid another
loss to the Railers at home on Saturday night.

Saturday’s recap

The first period was a busy one. It started off slow on both ends, but then the pace quickly picked up when Charlie Gerard got tagged for a slashing penalty. The Royals killed it off, and the period ended with three
penalties total (Two on the Royals side). They also lead 2-1 over the Railers after the first period of play. Both goalies also made consistent saves throughout the period.

Second Period

The speed and physicality were felt early in the period, as the Railers scored their second goal of the game to knot things up at two. Both goalies were on their heels throughout the entire period, as the speed affected the game. There was a lot of back and forth, but this was a goaltenders period for the most part.

Due to Reading’s persistence the score was knotted at two at the end of two.

Third Period

The third was quiet for the most part, but Reading was persistent again. It ended with a bang, with a Flyers-style fight
between Colin Felix and Billy Jerry.

Unfortunately for Reading, Ryan MacKinnon potted the game winner for the Railers, as they won the game 3-2.

Like Flyers Head Coach John Tortorella, coach John Henry of the Royals was pleased with the effort from his team:

“The effort we got from our group, I thought was great. We didn’t let up at any time, we were really consistent with all of our lines, we were contributing offensively, generating scoring chances.” – Royals Head Coach James Henry

Royals Head Coach James Henry reiterated that some games just don’t go your way, but you can be proud of the effort as a team. He then gave props to Railers goalie, Brett Moran, “Sometimes you run into a hot goalie every once in a while who was able to make some saves,” Henry said. Giving credit where credit is due, Henry showed great sportsmanship, while stressing effort
and a positive attitude. It should pay big dividends in the future.

Now they have a little bit of time to rest this week with their next game being on the road in Adirondack on February 3rd.
