The Reading Royals, Lehigh Valley Phantoms and Philadelphia Flyers affiliates, had a tough weekend this past weekend, as they lost both games to fall to 4-4 on the short season thus far.
They played the Maine Mariners, who had a slew of former Royals players, like Mason Millman and Nolan Maier to name a few. They fell to the Mariners 3-0 in the first tilt to open the weekend, and it just happened to be one of those games for the Royals.
Maier bested the Royals with pitching his third career shutout, as Royals netminder Keith Petruzzli fell to 2-1 on the season. Petruzzli has played well, and he’s athletic. He stopped 29 shots on 32 shots faced.
Second Game
Royals netminder Vinnie Purpura made his Royals debut, but the Royals fell to the Mariners once again 5-3. Purpura, obviously fell to 0-1 on the season, as he saved 27 shots on 31 shots faced.
The Royals fought and fought on the back end of a back to back with the Mariners, but they fell to 4-4 on the short season thus far.
Lou-Felix Denis scored his first career professional goal, and that tied the game at 1.
Tyler Gratton scored to pull the Royals within one at 3-2, but they surrendered an empty netter to make it 4-2 Mariners. Powell Connor scored to pull the Royals within one again at 4-3, and eventually lost the game 5-3.
Hopefully, the Royals can return back to their winning ways tomorrow night November 6, 2024 for a Wild Wednesday promotion at Santander Arena.
Trade
Following the game on Sunday, the Royals acquired Defenseman Robbie Sticker from Orlando for future considerations.
