A team’s goaltender really sets the tone, and that is what Cal Peterson is doing for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the playoffs. The Hershey Bears are an elite-talented team, but the Phantoms hung right there with them in game one falling just short by the score of 2-1.
Tanner Laczynski scored the lone goal for the Phantoms assisted by Ronnie Attard and Bobby Brink, as they tried clawing their way back into the game after trailing 2-0. It wasn’t for lack of effort that the Phantoms couldn’t score, the Hershey Bears are just a really good team and they don’t give much. There wasn’t much ice out there for the Phantoms. They have to get really creative to steal game two which is Saturday night in Hershey again.
Hunter Shepard was sharp for the Bears in net. He made to tell saves look easy, and he appeared to have no timing issues after having an 11-day layoff after having a first round bye.
Believe it or not, for their efforts the Phantoms played well overall. The Bears were stingy, but the Phantoms are not going down lightly. Like the Phantoms, the Bears have their work cut out for them in game two.
What will happen in game two is anyone’s guess, but the Phantoms will look to get back on track. They just have to continue practice strong these next few days, and come in strong for game two.
