This Flyers victory reminded people of the Broad Street Bully Era, not the New Era of Orange. There was fighting even after the game ended, massive hits, even Jacob Markström whacked a Flyers player with his glove. What brought me back to reality was when Markström whacked a Flyers player with his glove in the third period, if the late Ray Emery was in net for the Flyers, that incidentz wouldn’t have happened. If it did, Emery would have came skating down the ice and pummelled Markström, he would have annihilated him.
The second period saw a flurry of goals. First Calgary scored, shortly thereafter the Flyers not at the game at one after Morgan Frost tallied 6th of the year. Tyson Foerster notched his 10th assist on Frost’s tally, Sean Walker also assisted on this goal. Approximately five minutes later Calgary scored again to make it 2-1, but the Flyers said no to that score too. Finally, the Power Play got on the board for the Flyers, with Sean Couturier notching the equalizer.
Then came the third period, the crowd was into it. They were loud and boisterous, this was the loudest the Wells Fargo Center has been for Flyers game in some time. Ed Snider would have approved on his birthday. Travis Konecny scored his 5th short-handed the season, and the Flyers 10th short-handed goal overall to win the game 3-2. This was a great victory on a special day, Ed Snider’s Legacy game where the Flyers commemorated him, in what would have been his 91st birthday.
That was awesome. I was thinking to myself on the bench that there is no way we were going to lose this game. You can just feel it in your body, and excitement going through the game,” Travis Konecny said following the game.
“It was a good game for Mr. Snider. Good style game for him, rest his soul.” The type of game, or style of game. I think he wanted us to play that way up there. I just wish I had a chance to meet him and talk to him. I thought the tribute the organization did was one of the better tributes I have seen,” said John Tortorella following the game.
