The Lehigh Valley Phantoms had a tough weekend with the Providence Bruins. Cal Petersen got the start in the first game on Friday night, and he did all he could do to keep them in it. The Phantoms wound up losing 3-0.
Petersen is the go-to for the Phantoms lately, as Aleksei Kolosov has been in Philadelphia with the big club for the past month or so.
Unfortunately, the Phantoms dropped the second game, as well. On Saturday, the Phantoms fought, and actually opened the scoring for game on Ethan Samson’s third goal of the season. Samson is just having a great season, and he has been given a longer leashe, since Emil Andrae has been up with the Flyers.
Samson has three goals and three assists on the season thus far. He has played in 16 games, but it’s great to see him playing very well. Even Flyers’ Head Coach John Tortorella mentioned his great play last week during a pre-game presser, as Helge Grans was recalled. A recall could happen in the near future, if injuries continue to arise.
The Phantoms are having the same troubles as the Flyers with scoring. One game they pot five goals, the next not so much. The offense has been very inconsistent all season long. If the Flyers are in need of goal scoring, then Samu Tuomaala would be the guy. Tuomaala has looked good, with scoring six goals, while registering 10 assists in 16 games played.
Hopefully, the Phantoms right the ship on Wednesday night against the Hartford Wolfpack.
