The Lehigh Valley Phantoms have been struggling a bit this season, so a victory on Friday night would be a huge victory for this young Phantoms squad. They got it, and they earned it. Wade Allison wasted no time to ensure that this would happen, as he scored the games first goal which happens to be his ninth of the season. This was a big one for Wade, as he was trying to impress the Flyers top brass that consisted of Danny Briere, Sam Morin, Alyn McCauley, and John LeClair. They were in attendance last night in the press box, as the NHL is on their break for the All-Star break.
After the Bears tied it up at one after one period of play. The Phantoms took over from there. They scored the games last three goals, courtesy of Brendan Furry, Jacob Gaucher, and Samuel Tuomaala. Tuomaala continues his excellent season, as he will make his first All-Star appearance as a professional. In addition, Gaucher netted the game winning goal in a 4-1 victory for Felix Sandström.
Sandström could see some time with the Flyers at some point during the second half of the season, as Carter Hart most likely will not play again this season for the orange and black, due to legal proceedings pertaining to the Hockey Canada incident. This was a big game for him in front of the Flyers top brass, and he was sensational by backstopping 30 shots on 31 shots faced.
Hopefully, this victory could reignite the Phantoms success from last season, as they are 2-3-2 and their last seven games played. They have the talent, now it’s time to prove it, even with a young back end that consists of Ethan Samson, Emil Andrae, Ronnie Attard, and Adam Ginning.
