The Lehigh Valley Phantoms have announced the acquisition of center Jordy Bellerive on an AHL contract.

Bellerive, 23, spent the last three seasons up Rt. 476 in rival Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. In those three seasons, he tallied 30 goals and 39 assists, totaling a nice 69 points. He also served as alternate captain for the WBS Penguins last season.

Phantoms Head Coach Ian Laperrière had some praise when asked about Bellerive.

“When I talked to him this summer I said, ‘If you know anything about me, I like players like you,'” Laperrière said. “I’m not going to expect him to score 30 goals. I want him to play hard, kill penalties, take big faceoffs. And be ‘in your face’ kind of hockey and that’s the game he plays.”

As the season grows near, with less than 30 days until Training Camp, this will be an important signing for the Phantoms. After a disappointing season last year, they will be looking to bounce back with plenty of young talent and grit.
