Carter Hart gave up a goal at 11:45 of the first and then was an absolute brick wall until 3:21 of the overtime period. Hart had several highlight reel saves in what could have been his most impressive outing so far this season. It is not like he wasn’t getting support from his team, it is just some of the chances he faced were so high quality and so was his performance in the net. It would have been nice to see the Flyers get more than just one point out of it but that just wasn’t in the cards.
Scott Laughton scored his first goal in 16 games sending the Flyers into the third period tied at one. Laughton’s goal is listed on the score sheet as unassisted but you have to give some credit to Vegas goalie Adin Hill who did everything in his power to make sure the puck went into the net. Hill misplayed the puck behind the goal and passed it right to Laughton, when Scott attempted to bank the puck off the goaltender from an impossible angle Hill went above and beyond and kicked the puck into his own net. Hey, a goal is a goal.
The third period was good tight hockey, pretty even, and played at a quick pace. James van Riemsdyk looked healthy and strong, the combination of him and Zack MacEwen worked really well all night. The Flyers continued to struggle in the face-off circle and that is something that could really make a difference in these close games. Vegas went the entire night without a penalty being called against them. The Flyers took only their second penalty of the night with just under three minutes left in regulation. They did a great job on the penalty kill, eating up a ton of time in the Vegas zone and eventually forcing the game into overtime. The Flyers controlled the puck for most of the overtime period. Overall tonight was a solid outing for the Orange and Black right up until the final seconds when Vegas took advantage of a turnover and scored the game winning goal on their first shot of the overtime period.

Absolutely everything about Vegas’s uniform is stupid, and I am not just saying that because they won the game. Everything about it is not good from the sparkly golden thread, to the fake swords on the pants, and the poor choice of fonts for the numbers and lettering. They are a compilation of unfortunate choices. It looks like someone made them out of scraps from their grandma’s old New Years Eve outfit…just sayin.
