Flyers’ General Manager Danny Briere spoke at his annual opening season. Presser to the media yesterday. He touched on the saga between the Flyers and Alexei Kolosov.
Both sides went back and forth on how to handle this situation, but Briere believes that both sides are on the same page now.
Briere said that Alexei Kolosov thought he needed another year in the KHL before making the leap to the NHL. The Flyers viewed it differently, and they are excited he’s here. They wanted to see where he was at in terms of his development.
Like Briere noted, It is spent some time since they saw him last in person. He missed Developmental Camp, Rookie Camp, and even a large part of Training Camp. It’s understandable why the club would like to see where he stands in terms of his development. After all he is under contract with them.
Much like young prospects in junior hockey in the CHL. The teams reserve the right to send them back to Juniors or keep them to make the club, depending on their age.
Briere knows It will take time for him to get acclimated into the AHL, but a recent addition in Rodrigo Abols can speak the language, per Briere.
In the end, Briere has no idea how this will end up, but it is good to hear that Kolosov is adapting well to the team. It is a big culture shock coming to a new country, so it’s understandable for him to be a little weary.
