Joel Farabee underwent successful disc replacement surgery in his cervical region this morning. The surgery was performed at Penn Medicine. He is expected to make a full recovery in 3-4 months.
The good news is the Flyers have time to make alternative arrangements to fill his void in the lineup if need be when the season starts, but the bad news is he might miss significant, important parts to John Tortorella’s tough training camp. This would have been a good time to really get to know torts. It’s going to be a tough grueling camp, and Farabee might not be able to take in certain portions of camp. He is expected to return around the start of the season, per the Flyers.
What Farabee also brings is skating, and his confidence is showing this season. Farabee can skate at top speed to push the play up the ice. He’s proven time and time again he is an excellent skater, with the agility and edge work to get by defenders in one-on-one situations, and he has a great first step. Farabee is an outstanding playmaker off the wing, who possesses great vision of the ice. He is also a good defender. He remains focused and poised at killing penalties, and has a keen good hockey sense.
Just imagine where the Flyers would be without the next buffing star in Farabee. He has really opened some eyes throughout the NHL, and is turning into a reliable ace for a club that was looking to right the ship this season.
