Aleksei Kolosov got off to a great start in his NHL Debut, as he became the first Belarusian Goaltender to play in an NHL game. He made nine saves out of 10 shots faced through the first period, and it became clear the Flyers organization thought very highly of his talents. Even so much so, the orange and black had him pegged as the number two netminder for a period of time.

Unfortunately, Kolosov has proven that he needs more seasoning and more time to hone in on his development as a Goaltender. Mind you, he is just 22-years of age, so there is no reason to write him off just yet. These type of struggles are typical for young netminders, especially those that are trying to adapt to North America.

The Flyers sent Kolosov back to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms today, a Flyers affiliate. It’s about time, as the Lehigh Valley Phantoms have been decimated with injuries to goalies over the course of the past month or so. The Flyers wanted to keep Kolosov up with the big club, in case of injury, so they do not have to use one of their four recalls, post trade deadline.

Kolosov in the end will report to the Phantoms, and hopefully he continues to find his way in North America.
