Thr Four Nations Faceoff Tournament concluded last night, and it was Matt with high expectations. This championship game was about between two arch rivals in Team USA and Travis Canada.
Tram Canada opened the scoring, with Nathan MacKinnon netting his 4th goal of the tournament. For his efforts, he was also named MVP of the tournament following the 3-2 victory in overtime.
Brady Tkachuk and Jake Sanderson scored for the Americans and that made it 2-1 USA, but here came Canada. Sam Bennett, who filled in for Flyers star Travis Konecny few games ago, came away with the equalizer at two with 6:28 left in the second period.
Connor McDavid played hero, as they won in overtime 3-2. McDavid registered a beautiful assist on the first goal of the tournament by Nathan MacKinnon to open the scoring originally for Canada, with the first goal of the tournament, in the 4-3 victory over Sweden on February 12, 2025. Now of course he ices it in the championship game.
In the end, this tournament was an overall success for the NHL. Some that typically don’t watch the sport of hockey found themselves tuned in to some of the biggest games, with the likes of USA versus Canada. Kudos to both who cities of Montreal and Boston, both cities enjoyed sellouts for every game. It turned out to be a fun, unique tournament, filled with excitement, physicality, and fights.
