The Flyers had somewhat of a busy day fighting the inevitable, as expected with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms recently opening Training Camp on Sunday. Some did well during their taste of a Torts Camp or “Tortsture Camp”, while others knew the writing was on the wall for a cut. They placed two players on waivers today. Here are the list of players the Flyers waived today:

Troy Grosenick

Kevin Connauton

Troy Grosenick was given every shot to make the team, but just didn’t knock down the doors for a spot. This is a big year for him nonetheless, as he played solid hockey throughout camp and the pre-season. He wasn’t flashy, but wasn’t bad either. Unfortunately, he was beat out by young Swedish promising netminders in Samuel Ersson and Felix Sandström for the backup goaltending position to Carter Hart.

It was inevitable for Grosenick to be waived, with the intention of sending to the Phantoms if he clears waivers. In the end, I think he will. Ersson didn’t just beat out Grosenick, he smoked him. The young Swedish netminder in Ersson stopped 57 out of 60 shots faced in the pre-season, which was good enough for a .950 Save Percentage.

Connauton almost survived another round of cuts, but he knows he needs to get his game going in order to win a spot with the club. He was vying for the 6th Dman position, but was beat out by Ronnie Attard, Nick Seeler, and Egor Zamula.

In the end, I do not expect any of these players to get claimed. I expect both to fully clear, and report to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms as camp continues.
