Danny Briere has hit the ground running fast, in three weeks since officially being tabbed as General Manager. Today he made a splash with trading the Flyers best defenseman in Ivan Provorov.
The Flyers shipped out Ivan Provorov to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Columbus’s 22nd first round pick in the 2023. This was a three team.deal and it’s still a fluid situation as the deal is still being ironed out with minor league players. Here’s the deal so far:
Philadelphia receives: Cal Peterson-G ($5 million cap hit), Sean Walker- RHD ($2.65 million cap hit), Helge Grans- RHD ($832,500 cap hit), Columbus’s 22nd first round pick, a 2024 or 2025 second round pick from Columbus, and a second round pick from Los Angeles
Columbus: Ivan Provorov ($6.75 million cap hit)
Los Angeles Kings: retain 30% of Provorov’s contract, Hayden Hodgson, and Kevin Connauton
The Kings at which originally acquired Provorov I have learned, but he was flipped to Columbus to create cap space to sign Gavrikov.
In the end, the Flyers took on a few bad contracts for draft capital in the Ivan Provorov trade. Honestly, the Flyers aren’t supposed to be contenders for two to three years, this is what happens. This is a great first trade for Danny Briere.

Carter Hart
The Flyers are actively working on a trade for Carter Hart. It’s not as close to being finalized, but it’s being worked on. Watch Edmonton here.
