Last night concluded the 2020 NHL Draft. Chuck Fletcher and the Flyers got some really good picks out of it, including making a trade with Tampa — picks for picks. The trade was the Flyers 116th and 147th picks for Tampa’s 94th overall pick. By trading higher, the Flyers were able to draft a Right-Winger in Zayde Wisdom.

The Flyers traded up with the purposes of drafting Wisdom. When asked about how it felt to know a team wanted him that much, Wisdom said:

“It definitely means a lot for an organization like that to trade up and pick me up in a spot like that.”- Zayde Wisdom

Wisdom’s drive is something that is unrelenting, which is something that Flyers fans love to see. This season alone, Wisdom had 29 goals and 30 assists combining for 59 points with the Kingston Frontenacs.

He has developed a special connection to former Flyer, Wayne Simmonds. Wisdom played in Simmonds’ ball hockey tournaments in Toronto during the summers, and from there they developed a mentorship relationship.

The relationship between Simmonds and Wisdom has helped him a lot, both on and off the ice, “Having a guy like that in your corner where he’s giving you advice and letting you know what your best decision would be and advising you helps a ton,” Wisdom said.

Wisdom also said that he would call Simmonds after the draft, ready to hear his advice and stories from his time in Philly. Simmonds even tweeted about Wisdom last night saying that Flyers fans will have a new favorite in Wisdom.

Another fun fact about Wisdom is that he and the Flyers 23rd overall pick in the 2020 draft, Tyson Foerester have known each other since they were about 5 or 6 years old. The potential of these two playing together in the NHL could be really exciting.

The drive is there for Wisdom, and Flyers fans have much to look forward to. No matter where he went in the draft, to whichever team he ended up, Wisdom is determined to make a name for himself in the NHL.
