Robert Hagg became a staple in the Regular Season and playoffs as a reliable bottom pairing defenseman in the NHL. He is not the flashiest Defenseman, but he is a physical one. One that hits, block shots, and really plays a solid defensive game as a bottom pairing Dman. Today he can breathe as he signed a two-year extension with the Flyers for $3.2 million, worth an annual average of $1.6 million.
Hagg, finally got a shot to make an imprint with the orange and black, and boy did he deliver. Drafted by the Flyers in the second round in 2013, Hagg was never seen as a defenseman that could pair with Ivan Provorov, but he plays the bottom pairing defensive style well.
The fact is Hagg has become a staple with the Flyers defensively. He plays a solid game to include hitting, battles hard for pucks, and blocks shots. Hagg tallied three goals, and 10 assists for a total of 13 points in 49 games played, to include 136 hits, and 79 blocked shots this past season. For the most part he played a consistent game.
The young 25-year-old Defenseman in Hagg can provide a much needed spark to this club when given the chance, and he is best friends with Oskar Lindblom. His two-year $3.2 million ($1.6 million AAV) is a well earned one for Hagg. With this signing the Flyers now have two RFA’s left in Philippe Myers and Nolan Patrick, with approximately $4.6 million in actual cap space left (These figures are with Patrick off LTIR, and with him on LTIR the Flyers cap is approximately $6.2 million).
