The Flyers started out their Tuesday night game against the New Jersey Devils the same way they ended their series in Boston, with the other team dominating the game. Fortunately, goalie Brian Elliott was able to keep the Devils scoreless despite getting peppered with a flurry of shots.

Things started to turn around for the Flyers late in the first period when the Devils hit the right post behind Elliott on a breakaway.  Soon after, James van Reimsdyk deflected Ivan Provorov’s shot from the point into the net for a power play goal to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead.

The Flyers took that lead into the second period. Less than a minute into the second period, van Reimsdyk was able to deflect another shot into the net for another power play goal and gave the Flyers a two goal lead.

The Devils gained momentum late in the second period and were able to get goals in a four minute time span from Michael McCloud and Travis Zajac to tie the game at two.

Brian Elliott kept the score tied with some excellent goaltending early in the third period. Claude Giroux made an excellent pass from behind the net and Nolan Patrick scored the tie-breaking goal. Hard work by Scott Laughton and Oskar Lindblom forced a turnover deep in the Devils end and Joel Farabee buried the puck in the back of the net for a 4-2 Flyers lead.  The Devils pulled their goalie late in the third period and Ivan Provorov was able to gather the puck in front of his own net and shot it the length of the ice for a goal to basically put the game away.  The Devils scored a late goal to make the final score 5-3 Flyers.

The Flyers take game 1 of the 2 game series against the Devils in Newark.  This represents a nice bounce back from the poor play in the Boston series. They are both back at it on Thursday in New Jersey as the Flyers look to win back to back games against the Devils at 7 PM Eastern time.
